PI-Mod: New document standard

Since 2010 KGU has been working with the PI-Mod information model created by a work group under the leadership of Prof Dr Wolfgang Ziegler in collaboration with several companies. The document standard is specifically custom-made so as to meet the requirements of the industrial machine and plant production and their associated industries (such as, for example, the automation and electronic sector or consumer products) and offers the best prerequisites by way of variable functionalities.

To the greatest possible extent, PI-Mod is implementation-independent, thus facilitating its integration in Teamcenter Content Management Systems (CMS). The use of PI-Mod is free of charge and is merely subject to an open-source licensing agreement. According to the KGU Managing Director, Heiko Günter, "PI-Mod is a Best-Practice, and is optimally suited for a large number of our customers and target groups."

During initial tests, which were carried out with customers and Stephan Steurer as the PI-Mod consultant and implementer, the KGU team quickly realised that the PI-Mod information model covered the most important requirements and, due to its easily understandable implementation, ensured an easy entry.
