KGU won tekom doku prize - award for successful instruction manuals
In its first time of participation, KGU was awarded the prestigious tekom documentation prize (tekom-Dokupreis). The professional association of technical communication awards the prize for particularly user friendly instructions for software, consumer and investment goods. KGU´s department for technical documentation successfully submitted a user manual for the company´s own technical authoring system TechPub Studio, that was created using the described software.
The prize was presented in the form of a statue of Thot, the Egyptian protective god of scribes and scholars, at the beginning of November at the tekom annual fair in Stuttgart. This year, 19 manuals were admitted to the strict procedure. The coveted trophy was handed to seven companies whose manuals scored an overall rating of 2,0 (good) or better, after a six months assessment phase.
The IT specialists in the area of technical documentation, located in Flensburg, are very happy with their first “documentation Oscar”. “We really didn´t expect to win in the course of our first participation. We are twice as happy about this award, as it not only confirms the comprehensibility and quality of our manuals but also proves the performance of our technical authoring system”, says KGU managing director Heiko Günter.
The tekom awards this prize since 2005. A team of 50 honorary experts examines the submitted documentation according to a well-defined procedure. The catalog of criteria is based on internationally accepted norms such as the DIN EN 82079 or the VDI 4500 and focusses especially on safety aspects and the practicality of the manuals. The evaluated documentation covers a huge variety of products, ranging from the classical user manual in print to an interactive online help.
TechPub Studio is a user friendly technical authoring system that allows the creation of user oriented technical documentation for complex products with many variants. Such as operating instructions, user manuals, repair orders or maintenance plans. TechPub Studio enables to improve the quality of the documentation and to reduce efforts and costs for creation and translation at the same time.
